The voice of genre-defying Sabrina Carmen has been described as “sultry," buttery," and “pillowy like a feather waltz.” Combine that with cinematic vibes and moody soundscapes, and you find her own brand of alternative dark dream pop.
Pegged an old soul and born into an artistic family Sabrina Carmen grew up singing along with legends like Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, and Ella Fitzgerald. When she lost her mother to breast cancer at age thirteen, her passion for writing escalated, as it became her therapeutic artistic outlet. This traumatic yet transformative life event, shaped her heart-wrenching tone and introspective style, still ever-present in her music today.
After deferring her acceptance into the Berklee College of Music in Boston to study songwriting, Sabrina was cast in her first feature film, "Elena Undone," which premiered at Outfest in 2010. In addition to playing a supporting character in the movie, Sabrina wrote and recorded "Suddenly," an original song that was featured in the film and on its soundtrack. Years of honing skills have led her to write songs for other artists, perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Youngblood Hawke & Thirty Seconds to Mars, record vocals for the Thirty Seconds to Mars album, “LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS,” co-write with seasoned industry songwriters Billy Steinberg and Ken Hirsch, sign with Kari Kimmel’s licensing company ‘Glow Music Group,’ appear in a Gap holiday commercial singing background vocals for Janelle Monáe, and sing on The Late Late Show with James Corden. In addition to on-camera acting, singing, performing, and songwriting, Sabrina's voice can be heard on many commercial voice over campaigns, for brands such as: Universal Studios, Kaiser Permanente, Pizza Hut, SoCal Gas, The Container Store, Johnnie Walker & T-Mobile.
From 2015 to early 2020, Sabrina went under the name "MadLyn" in honor of her mother, dubbing this era of her music as "The MadLyn Project." During this artistic period, she released a series of songs and corresponding music videos which collectively, have surpassed 400k views, and found their way to radio charts. In addition to taking on her mother's name during this period, she also created, hosted, & performed in the on-going breast cancer fundraising music event, The Siren Song, in association with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The Siren Song began as a bi-monthly residency at "The WitZend" in Venice Beach, CA featuring Sabrina and other up-and-coming singer songwriters in the LA area. Since its beginnings, it has expanded into other arenas, collaborating with other womens' arts groups holding benefit concerts in galleries and on college campuses, with sponsors such as: Sam's Club, Starbucks, Sam Ash, Trader Joe's, and many local businesses who have donated prizes for raffles. "The Siren Song" is still an active performance group, and supports a cause very near and dear to Sabrina's heart.
Sabrina's single 'Hush' marks the first artistic endeavor under her own name, Sabrina Carmen. 'Hush' is an introspective cinematic ballad, reflecting on the COVID-19 era and what a stay-at-home order can do to an over-active mind. 'Hush' is for those who can relate to the battle of the 2020 brain. On October 30th 2020, Sabrina released a very special music video for 'Hush'- she asked people to submit clips of themselves physically expressing their emotions during quarantine, and was amazed by the amount of people who wanted to share their stories. Their participation truly brought 'Hush' to life, as the emotions expressed in the clips pertaining to COVID-19 are felt and shared by us all.
Sabrina's newest single 'Dreaming Wide Awake' hit all streaming platforms on Friday August 13th 2021, and is a collaboration between Sabrina, Rebecca McBride, Rebekah Wilbur, Jamie Miller and Matt Richert, who all came into contact online during the pandemic, and crafted the song together via zoom. 'Dreaming Wide Awake' explores escapism, transcendence, and brings the magic of the dream world into one's waking reality. Sabrina's wish for everyone: that all humans would hold on tight to their dreams.
Sabrina's new single 'Shh I Won't Tell' is officially yours. If you like dark pop vibes and songs about secrets, you'll like this one as much as Sabrina love's her pear & blue cheese ice cream from Salt & Straw (don't knock it till you try it).
